Discover Bolivia

Latin America's Untamed Soul

Nestled in Latin America's heart, Bolivia captivates with its raw, otherworldly allure — from the boundless mirror of Salar de Uyuni's salt flats to the sapphire depths of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake fringed by Isla del Sol's ancient Inca paths. La Paz's vertiginous cable cars whisk you above bustling witches' markets, while Potosí's colonial shadows whisper of silver-fueled empires, and Madidi's Amazon canopy teems with elusive jaguars.

Bolivia does not polish its edges for visitors. It demands respect — acclimatise amid Andean grandeur — but rewards with unfiltered authenticity: coca tea at dawn, Aymara rituals unchanged for centuries, and landscapes that make you question what planet you are on.

This high-altitude realm is far from polished resorts. It is the continent's most rugged, perspective-shifting destination — for travellers who want to feel something profound. From the surreal coloured lagoons of the southwest to the colonial elegance of Sucre, Bolivia is a country that redefines what travel can mean.

The Condor Trails Difference

Bolivia shares a deep cultural bond with Peru — the same Aymara and Quechua traditions flow across the border at Lake Titicaca, which Aleksander's family has navigated since childhood. When we design Bolivia itineraries, we draw on the same Andean knowledge that informs our Peru journeys, combined with trusted local partners in La Paz and Uyuni who share our commitment to respectful, immersive travel.

Essential Information

Before You Go

Everything you need to know to travel Bolivia with confidence.

Visa & Entry

Visa-free for 90 days for most nationalities including EU, UK, Australia, and Canada. US citizens have been visa-free since December 2025. Passport must be valid for 6+ months.

Altitude

La Paz sits at 3,640 m — altitude sickness is real. Acclimatise: rest on Day 1, drink coca tea, hydrate constantly. Acetazolamide (Diamox) available by prescription. Arrive from lower altitude if possible.

Currency & Money

Boliviano (BOB) — approximately 6.9 BOB = 1 USD. Exchange USD cash at casas de cambio. ATMs can be unreliable outside cities. Credit cards accepted in hotels and restaurants in larger towns; carry cash for markets.

Getting There

El Alto Airport (LPB) serves La Paz (at 4,061 m — the world's highest international airport). Flights from Lima (~2 hrs) or Santiago. Dublin connects via Lima or Bogotá. Uyuni has a small airport with seasonal flights.

Weather

Cold at altitude year-round. La Paz: 5–15°C. Uyuni can drop below freezing at night, even in summer. Layers essential. Sun is intense — high SPF and a hat are mandatory at this altitude.

Safety

Generally safe for tourists. Petty theft is a concern in La Paz markets — secure valuables, use official taxis or Uber at night. Avoid solo walks in unfamiliar areas after dark. Travel insurance essential.
